A Brief History of “The
Valet”
In 1987 a retired business CEO approached Trek Corp. of
We presented the idea
to a large company who owned a large chain of stores. They also owned a large
fleet of cars that returned little value when they traded them in for new
vehicles. We proposed that they sell these vehicles to a new leasing corporation
they would own and we would rent these vehicles at their store locations. The
retired executive knew the CEO of this company who acknowledged they would
engage into a partnership with us.
We needed a computer program
that could track and control the
whole operation. Hence began the project of writing a unique Car Rental program.
This program would have to be “User Friendly”, yet
powerful. It must be able to track the vehicles all
the time, detect if employees are cheating, and create a database of customers
for repeat business as this system was truly going to be a “neighborhood car
rental company”. It was designed to be multi-user at one location
and multi-location capable program.
So The
Valet was born. It has been a workhorse for years. Many employees
without any computer experience learn to use it quickly. The program is a
menu-driven application. Therefore, it is fast and an orderly outline of what is
available.
